I actually committed to the April CampNaNoWriMo, and I’m already a day behind.
For the uninitiated, here’s an explanation of what I’m supposed to be doing (but haven’t been doing, did I already mention I’m a day behind?) from the website:
What is Camp NaNoWriMo?
Based on November’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), Camp NaNoWriMo provides the online support, tracking tools, and hard deadline to help you write the rough draft of your novel in a month… other than November!
Camp NaNoWriMo was established in 2011 as a project of the Office of Letters and Light, the parent 501(c)(3) nonprofit to National Novel Writing Month and the Young Writers Program. 2013 Camp sessions will take place in April and July.
What: Writing a novel from scratch in one month’s time.
Who: You! (And about 20,000 other novelists around the world.) Let’s write some perhaps-awful, but definitely lengthy, prose together.
Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties.
When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster. Writing begins at 12:00 AM on April 1, and again on July 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach your word-count goal by 11:59 PM on the last day of the month. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.
For a fleeting moment, I considered jumping up and shouting “April Fool’s!” and just abandoning the whole project and passing it off as an (not even remotely funny) April Fool’s joke, but I woke up this morning and decided to soldier on. Or at least start.
Here’s a list of posts that were tagged CampNaNoWriMo today, and these brave folks are actually out there writing, instead hiding back in the cabin under a scratchy blanket like I am. Hmmm. Maybe I should read a few of these posts before I get started? Heck, why not read all of them? And I can’t forget to drop off those clothes at the Goodwill today. And the refrigerator needs to be cleaned out. I mean, who can sit and write when there’s expired yogurt in the refrigerator?
Good luck to all my fellow campers!

You aren’t a writer until you’ve procrastinated. That’s what I tell myself anyway. You aren’t a writer until you tell yourself things. :p Good luck with the novel! I look forward to reading it!

Procrastinating is part of the job. After all, you need time to think! Good luck from me, too 🙂

I did Nano last year and I was so proud of myself. I think I may skip this year, although I am determined to work on my novel. To many health issue, silly to deliberately cause more headaches at this time. I just talked to my doc about starting Botox for them.

Go for it! And thanks — I have wanted to try this but November is always way too busy for me. I will try to do it in July!

I had no idea that NaNoWriMo had an April & July chapter. If I can only get the taxes done in time… Thanks for passing the word along 🙂
